Free Smiles Month

Lately, I've found that it is way too easy to get free oral hygiene products (toothbrushes, floss, etc.). With this fountain of free stuff that is readily available to us, I had a fantastic idea! Let's use our money saving power and give to those less fortunate. As a result, I hereby declare May to be:

FREE SMILES MONTH

Here's the skinny:

  1. For the month of May, acquire as many free (or close to free) oral hygiene products as possible.
  2. On the last day of the month, I will post a blog entry and want to see it flooded with comments re: all the free stuff you got. This is one of the few times when it is okay to toot your own horn!
  3. Donate the goods to the Food Closet at your local church or favorite charity.

Here's a couple of links for coupons:

Krazy Coupon Lady- printable coupons

Some of you may not want to mess with coupons, but still want to help. If that's the case, pick up a couple cheap toothbrushes on your next grocery run.

Let's see what we can do together. Are you with me?

Scarface!

The cost of beauty is very high.

On Tuesday, I curled my hair because I wanted to try something different. I used a three rod iron so that my hair would look wavy, not curly. While working on my hair, one of the rods touched my cheek and burned it! Ouch. After applying burn cream, I ran some errands. While I was out, I caught a glimpse of myself and saw that I had a purple bar on my cheek!

The doctor said that it was a minor 2nd degree burn and that it needs to be covered with a band aid for 2 weeks. That is a long time of people looking at me then watching their eyes move to my band aid. I do not look forward to telling and re-telling the embarrasing story of how I seared my own face like a piece of ahi tuna!

Initially, I wanted to wear flesh colored band aids with hopes that it would blend in with my face. Unfortunately, it's not working. I figured if I have to wear a band aid, I should have fun with it. As a result, I picked out some Hello Kitty and cool graphic print band aids.

Below are some great band aids, should you ever have to wear one for two weeks:

C is For Cookie That's Good Enough For Me

Baking cookies is like playing sports- sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. For every stellar cookie I've made, I have also baked an equally horrible one. The recipe below, however, is a win win. Thank you, allrecipes.com, for supplying this amazing little gem. If you don't try this recipe, I feel sorry for you :)

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt; stir into the butter mixture until well blended. Mix in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or just until set. Cool slightly on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
