Mommy Loves: Cookies

It's no secret that I love cookies. I could give the Cookie Monster some serious competition. I'm not sure how fair it would be considering he's just a puppet. Anyways, I know that I'm not the only cookie lover. Moms typically share a deep appreciation for this sweet, bite sized treat. Here's some inspiration for baking success on Mother's Day!

Mommy Likes...Packing Lunches

School is right around the corner and with it comes the responsibility of packing lunches again. Is it just me or does it seem like kids never like the lunch that their parents pack them? As a kid, I don't remember getting terribly excited about my school lunches. I see the same look of delight when I tell Bryce that I made him yet another peanut butter and honey sandwich. Maybe my son will never be thrilled with everything I make, however, I know he will definitely be excited about how it's packaged. Below are my picks for elements of a great lunch:

laptoplunches.com offers these great bento boxes. They come in different color combinations and what kid doesn't love opening little containers to see the surprise that awaits them?

I chose this bag because of the Hello Kitty lover within me. I found this bag on reuseit.com and I love the cutesy, Japanese look. What a pleasant looking sandwich! How often is that statement made?

It does not matter how old your kid is, they always like notes from you. Instead of scribbling a note on a napkin, give them a mini lunch note. Each card has a colorful animal on the front and space on the back for a hand-written note. Check it out at potterybarnkids.com

Mommy Likes...Denim Cutoff Shorts

This summer, I wanted a pair of denim shorts. I scoured so many stores and then I bought some that were way too tight. I walked around feeling very self-conscious. Don't you hate buying something that you don't like thinking, "I paid money to feel like this?"

Then the idea came to me- why don't I just make some shorts out of a pair of jeans that I don't usually wear? I didn't use a really scientific method. I just put a pair of shorts on top of my pants, made sure the inseams matched, then started cutting.

I was so pleased with the results that I started cutting into the boy's khaki pants and jeans. The boys have so many pants that are too short but still fit in the waist, so this was the perfect solution. At this point, someone needs to pry the scissors out of my hands or else we won't have any pants for  fall.

Now I have shorts and didn't have to break the bank. Seriously, who wants to buy something that they already have at home?

Mommy Likes...Bathing Suits

I have a theory. Moms own two bathing suits:

  • A sensible one piece suit for mom events.
  • A suit for tanning or going on vaca where no one knows you.

Above is the perfect suit for going to the public pool with the kids. It is modest and super stylish. The colorful pattern is faaaaaaaaaaaaantastic. jcrew

This suit is great for relaxing at the beach. It makes me wanna lay out on the lido deck of  a cruise ship and drink a Coke. Who doesn't like black and white? An added bonus is the price. Kmart
